She teaches Effective Business Presentations, Career Launching and Portfolio Development, How to Be a Successful Student, Effective Business Presentations , E-Marketing and (online) Web-Based Learning at Seneca. She does training workshops for faculty in the Professional Development Department including the BlackBoard learning management system and developing eportfolios. She serves on several technology related Faculty Committees and Advisory Boards and is a consultant for the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition at Seneca. An early adapter and member of course development teams she acts as designer, developer and advisor for curriculum projects. Her projects include CD ROM and video-taped learning materials and web-based courses for classroom and on-line and presently, research concerning language learning and student success. She completed the Designing Curriculum Using Technology Certificate at Seneca with high honours in 2004.
Dr. Karsten also teaches (online), Enhancing Holistic Learning with Computer Technology as well as The Holistic Curriculum course in the Curriculum Teaching and Learning Department at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto where she completed her doctoral work in Computer Applications and Holistic and Aesthetic Studies in 1999. She is Web Mistress and an active committee member of the Holistic Educator Group at OISE/UT.
Through Karsten Productions she produces on-line learning modules for McGraw-Hill Ryerson and Thomson Nelson Learning. At Astralsite.com she builds websites for educators, artists and caregivers. Selia's background includes directing, producing, designing, writing and performing in the theatre, video production, multimedia, life skills counseling and career development, prior learning assessment, and alternate modes of course delivery. Her interests span photography, writing, graphics, languages, martial arts, scuba diving and travel.
