Selia Karsten BA, BEd (equiv) MFA, EdD

Dr. Selia Karsten, winner of the 2000 International College Teaching and Learning award for innovative excellence in teaching, learning and technology, has a special interest in cultivating student creativity.

Professor Karsten teaches Computer Applications , E-Commerce and Web-Based Learning and How to be a Successful Student at Seneca. She is very active on curriculum development teams for online courses. She also delivers computer workshops at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto where she completed her doctoral work in Computer Applications and Holistic and Aesthetic Studies in 1999.

Through Karsten Productions she produces on-line learning modules for McGraw-Hill Ryerson and Nelson/Thomson Learning. At astralsite.com she builds websites for educators, artists and caregivers. She is webmistress and an active member of the Holistic Educator Group at OISE/UT where she is teaching Enhancing Holistic Education with Computer Technology in the winter of 2002.

Her projects include CD ROM and video-taped learning materials and web-based courses for classroom and on-line. Selia's range of professional experience includes directing, producing, designing, writing and performing in the theatre, television, video production, multimedia, life skills counseling and career development, prior learning assessment, and alternate modes of course delivery. Her interests include photography, writing, graphics, sketching, sculpting, languages, martial arts, scuba diving and travel.
