ADVICE for Ecommerce MRK610 - Winter 2000 (first time for the course, developed fall 1999)

This course has been a great experience. I think that the course outline was a definite success this semester, and will prove the same results in the future. As an introduction course to E-Commerce, I now have knowledge about E-Commerce and what to expect. Also I have had hands on experience learning the steps involved in creating an on-line site and problems that do arise. Working with teams was almost to much though. The response to the team web page that I sent you to your learn account had a suggestion I had about altering this assignment for future years. With the end being near and I look back on all the assignment I have has this semester in all of my classes; I really enjoyed the assignments we completed throughout this course. I liked the fact that this course had a direct tie to marketing. We were able to furtherour marketing knowledge into an area that was dim to us, while creating and better understanding E-Commerce. Selia, I really like your teaching style. You create a relaxed and interactive class. Also you are an approachable person that provides individual attention. I thoroughly enjoyed your teaching style, your personable attitude and the course as a whole. Thank you Selia, best of luck. CB

Stay organized, it is the key. With all of the assignments (major projects) if you don't stay on track you won't accomplished anything.

Another thing, since most of the assignments are dont in group work choose your group members wisely. Get people in your group that you can cooperate with, have a variety of skills, are organized, good ideas, and who put a lot of effort into their work.

School was fun, I can't believe it is really over.

I will miss it. LC

The best advice about this course is to plan, concentrate on the important tasks and give yourself planty of time because computers do F_ _ K up, and at the last minute you're left with nothing. Also, release your creativity and have fun with it! MD

I have a couple of prosperous suggestions for the students that will be attending MRK 610 in the following semester. First, if you like anything to do with information technology this is your course, if you don't i suggest that you keep up to date on the latest industry information. Second, prepare for all assignments beforehand and make sure work is done on time, computers do break down. Third, if you like expressing your creative skills this course will give you an opportunity to do that in constructing personal and group web pages. - Finally, don't get stressed over minor things - relax and have a beer break! Good Luck! CD

You must learn HTML. Without it you are doomed! Gota know it. But lets get seriuse I really think that learning HTML will help out alot . Another thing is DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE LAST SECOND. The Forums got to be done on time too. Just finish your assignments on time. FB

I'm have a few things to offer as advice to the next crop of e-com students; read the web page every week, learn good time management skills, keep on top of your work load, use creativity in your work, leave a lot of time to do your assignments as they are a lot of work, and finally, have fun! MG

My advice to all future e-com students is to learn good time management skills. Make sure that you keep on top of the work load that will be thrown at you from all your courses. Also, enjoy this course it will be very beneficial to you in the future. Their are many job oppornitues out their in e-commerce. This course was a great learning tool for myself, make sure that you use this course to it's full advantage. Learning to build web pages is very exciting and I'm sure you will enjoy this course. BG

The course is fairly straight forward, if you keep up with all assignments. I should have done my forums on time and kept up with them weekly. It is also important to keep constant communication with in your group, by meeting regularly. This way you can stay up to date with group assignments. Remember to make use of all suggested web tools when creating web sites. This course really prepared me for creating web sites. I have become more familiar with programs such as Communicator, WSFTP, different search engines and PowerPoint. LH

1. Start your assignments as early as possible.

2. Organization is the key to success. Therefore if you are organized in all of your studies, chances are you well continue to be successful.

3. If you can get all of your other projects out of the way, you will have time to not only do a great job in the e-com projects, but to explore and masters all of the disciplines of e-com.

4. Pick the right-working partners.

5. Do your weekly comments at the beginning of the week.

6. Make sure that you are good friends with the staff in the computer lab down stairs because most likely you will be asking for a lot of help. (JUST KIDDING.)

7. My best advice is to get every thing out of the way as soon as possible, so you have the time to ask the Professor lots of questions and truly explore the wonderful world of e-com. DJ

My advice is geared toward the course and the students. First the Course must teach HTML. I personally believe this would be never beneficial to learn HTML. It gives the knowledge of making Web sites and along with understanding the process in designing effective pages. Toward the students my advice is eat right, sleep right that pride in the work and understand the importance e-commerce will make in your marketing lives. Understand that E-commerce is an effective marketing format and understand that e-commerce is the wave of the future. BK
The best advice for new students entering Mrk610 is to make sure you manage your time. Don't leave everything until the last minute or you'll be completed stressed out! There's a lot of work for this course, but its do-able as long as you manage your time. Believe me, the semester will be over before you know it!! LL

USE LOTS OF GRAPHICS!!!!!

The best advice that I can give to net year's students, is to come to class and always work on required material. As in any other class don't leave anything to the last minute!
This course requires alot of detail, but is well worth it and alot of fun. I really learned alot this semester. ML
do your own thing, don't just do the minimum required to pass.
try new software, have lots of fun, and don't be affried to ask for help...
good luck to ya all EL

This ecommerce course teaches you the basics of building an ecommerce website and a look at the growth of the industry. Some advice I have is to start your projects early so that you won't stress out when the due date is approaching. Starting early also gives you time to improve your websites since you will have an opportunity to showcase them in your graduation portfolio when you're looking for a job. Another word of advice is to choose your group wisely so that you can divide the work equally. Also ask Selia for help when needed, other students in the class can also provide help since there are varying levels of computer skills in class. Good Luck! BL
My advise for this program would be for you to teach us the fundamental basics of HTML. When you are looking for a job that requires web maintenance, you need to understand HTML to complete the job. Not all websites allow you to use Nescape Navigator and Front Page Express and that might be the only web programs the company has. I found that this course was mostly self taught. This could be a disadvantage to the people who don't know much about website design and E-Commerce.MP

The best advice that I can give is DON'T LEAVE YOUR ASSIGNMETS FOR THE LAST MINUTE! Trust me. It can be very stressful, especially in your third year with assignments from all your classes coming left, right, and center. So try to manage your time wisely. And Be organized---very important. You'll learn alot and have fun learning about the fundamentals of building web pages. Have Fun! KR

As a student of MRK610 I am well aware of the courses demands, and its perks. My advice to students returning for a third year of marketing administration next year, and who will be taking MRK610, is to take the initiative. This means don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today. This is particularly important because of the demands of MRK610. Another piece of advice to future MRK610 students, is to make certain that you pay attention and know what is being taught in class(if not ask). All this will be necessary, since a student will be expected to know and apply everything they've being taught in the course. A final piece of advice is to make certain that you attend all MRK610 classes. This will pervent you from being surprised. Although all these pieces of advice are important for being successful in MRK610, they all require commitment, responsibility, and dedication, so make sure you are all of these. I know that all this advice may seem like a lot, but it's the only way you are going to truly be successful in MRK610. It is also the only way you are going to enjoy it.

P.S. Try to learn as much as possible about e-commerce and html, it will help you tremendously in the course and in your future. NS

My advice for this course is to keep an eye on it. It is alot of work and you can easily fall behind. Make sure you do your postings every week because if you do fall behind than it will be much harder to catch up on them. With all of the work you get in the semester you have to keep up. The web projects are a really good experience and make sure to take pride in your work. Everything that you build will go on your porfollio once you are done school. You can use all of the projects and assignments towards pottential jobs. Take the course seriously and I do not think anyone will have a problem. NS

This might sound very repetitive as what you might heard from the what the other students are posting their advice. But, I am going to mention it anyways. My advice to all the new students that are going to have to take E-commerce is to be organized and manage your time appropriately. I should know, I had dealt with it the hard way by leaving everything to the last minute. This then ultimately leads to more stress and frustration and then maybe paranoia. I guess that is how some people function and it is just human nature. Anyhow the last semester is probably the toughest because even though there is no exam, there is a lot of major projects and assignments that are being dished out by your professors. Another important advice that I have to offer is to carefully select the proper people to work as a group. Fortunately for me this semester, I haven't encountered that problem, but from past previous experience, I almost committed suicide because of the incompetent group members that I had selected. Overall, I just want to end on a final note by saying this course would most definitely prove to be beneficial in gaining the skills and expertise in creating a web page. PT

My best advice for next semesters students would be to be caught up and on time with all the student forums and assignments. Don't leave anything in this class until the last minute because you will find yourself with not enough time, and too many assignments. Because their are so many participation marks alloted to the weekly forums, I suggest that every person keep up to date with them. BT

My advice to students is to start all your assignments early and don't leave it to the last minute, as there are lot of assignments in the last semester and the time really flies.

Specific to e-commerce, if you have trouble, ask questions and get help. Other people might know how to do something that you may not know. The other thing is to experiment with the software or programs you are using to create your work. Lot of computer stuff is learned from trial and error. You try something out and the next thing you know, you have learned how to do something.

Finally, check out other people's work. See how they do things and how creative they work is. Seeing this, you can improve on it or come up with better ideas yourself. Just let your ideas flow. FY
