Course Evaluation 610SS Winter 2000
(first time this newly developed course was delivered)

I can honestly say that this course is somthing that I will need to have in the future. This is not like finite or grade 11 biololy. I thought that this course provided me with a strong knowledge of computers and the e-business that is growing so stringly. Iconsidering the fact that I was practically a computer illiterate, I know more now than I hace ever known. THANKS PEOPLE - MA

E-commerce 610 is very useful. I am able to create and design webpages for personal and business use. I am more aware of the program and I feel that I have gained some knowledge, not only regarding e-commerce, but the net as well. I would like to continue on in this field because there is so much more to learn. I really enjoyed designing websites, whether they be small or large. Now that I have finished Marketing Admisinstration I will continue my education and go into computers. I thought that I would finish with this, I have always said that 3 years is enough, but it's not. Not only will I get a diploma in MARKETING, but I will also receive one in computers. THANX SELIA :) NB

The web readings did not work for me; I do not get as much out of reading stuff from the web as I do reading from a textbook.
I do not know how the logs fit into the course for marking, but it is an excellent idea and I will continue to use one for working on the web.
The weekly information you gave us on what we needed to do that week was very helpful - it kept me organized.
The projects pages helped me ensure that I had everything in the project that I needed.
I used the links to my classmates web projects as a shortcut, because there is no way I would remember all the URLs.
I used the Search site near the beginning of the semester for the web report assignments, but that was all.
I never used either the class resources, the web page resources or your schedule pages.
For the first half of the semester I used the Schedule & due date section, but by the second half I knew when the projects were due.
I looked at the subject outline a couple of times at the beginning of the semester, then never again. LF

I must say as a six semester student I found this to be one class that really kept me interested. Posting messages on the forums was a lot of fun and I was learning at the same time. I think this is one of the most effective ways to organize this type of course. I also enjoyed designing web pages and really learned some effective ways to use the net to my advantage. With the direction business is going today, e-commerce and all that jazz, I feel this course has really prepared me with knowledge and understanding in this area. Another benefit I found with weekly forums was the thought process it created. I think for future classes you teach maybe you should really outline the presentation aspect in the first half of the semester. If you follow the same outline, stress the fact that you really want quality and maybe even have some more marks available for those who put together a good presentation. Example: presenting the e-commerce team sites. All in all it was a wonderful course and I can say I really learned something. Thanks! BK

This course was great! To tell you the truth I was a little ticked off when I found out the school of Marketing and E-Commerce merged - only because I knew that we had to take an extra class. Now that it is over, I quite enjoyed taking this course and I think that it was a wise move to merge these two schools together, especially since e-commerce is a huge part of marketing and business today! I wish everyone good luck and Selia - you did a great job of setting up this site, I wouldn't change a thing. CM

So you really want to know the truth about your course? Well then I'll tell you. It's amazing! You thought I was going to say something else but their's nothing bad to say about the course. If you can't make it to class, everything is on the web site that you missed for that day, as long as you know how to read. These long-ins are pretty good too, I'd say their are a lot of log-ins to do but at least it keeps you on track and also makes you visit the web site to see if their is anything else coming up or must be done soon. The web site also helps us by providing a lot of links of resources for our web pages and helps us with ideas as well. I really recommend this course to any business student at Seneca because it teaches you about responsibility, working on your own and also being really creative. I had a blast in this course and I am really persuaing the career as a web designer, thank you Mrs. Karsten, if I ever become a big web designer, I'll let you know!! RM

Overall I think this couse was a good experience, especially since we are now a part of the School of Marketing and E-Business. I felt that Ms. Karsten's web site was very informative with what is going on in class each week including due dates. (Especially for those days were you can't make it to class!) The only thing that I would suggest that could be changed is more specific information on what is expected on the reports that have to be handed in (on paper). Besides that, this course was a good introduction to the new world of E-Business Solutions and I think that each student will benefit from the course in one way or another! NN

This past semester I learned alot about ecommerce and I especially learned alot about designing my own personal webpage. Taking this course allows one to be creative, work in groups, learn about what ecommerce is, and learn about different issues or trends in ecommerce. This course is very interactive and gives you the tools needed whether is be designing you own webpage or promotimg your own business on line. Overall, I recommend this course to anyone who is interested in designing a webpage and expanding their computer expertise. Thanks, it's been alot of fun, PN

Well this is my final semester of full time studies here at Seneca College. I will be coming to summer school for a few course though. Overall I must say that I truly enjoyed coming to Selia's class. Although I was late on almost every occasion when I did not want to get up out of bed at 7:30am to attend the 8:00am class I thought of my participation mark and crawled out of bed. I liked the weekly forum and thought you should stay with that because it gives a student who is weaker in other areas to rack up some points. I think it was a little bit much to do the group forums every week though. I did not find it very beneficial. But instead of eliminating the group forums possibly cut it down to half so that each team member has the opportunity to do it at least once. I would keep all the the projects the same they are very useful. I would also like to also commend you on your promptness towards answering students email. You take the time to email us back as soon as possible as compared to other teachers who take their own sweet time or just don't respond at all. Your teaching style is great I like your easy going attitude. Thanks again for all your help and I will keep in touch. Best of luck and have a GREAT SUMMER!!!!!!! SS

I found this class to be very beneficial to us, especially now with so mush hype about e commerce. Although I found the assignments fun and the fact that there were NO tests ruled, I would eliminate the team forums and keep the individula ones. As a 6th semester student every thing is group work and I found that even though it was only one paragraph a week, I found it to be the straw that broke the camel's back". The class homepage was wonderful and very easy to use. Personally I would keep it the same for next year Thanks Selia See you YV

The following list below outlines the pro's & con's of the MRK 610 course program at Seneca College: Pro's: 1). Web page resources provided me with the knowledge I needed to be successful in the MRK 610 program. Detailed outlines as well as previous student's work enabled me to have a better understanding of the course program and professor's expectations. 2). Individual/group forums improved my writing skills. Morevover, it gave me an opportunity to explore the nature of E-Comerce and how it would affect me in the near future (e.g. banking, employment opportunities, on-line shopping, etc). 3). "E-mail chats" between my fellow classmates as well as professor provided me with accurate, reliable and prompt information which I needed to complete our assignments successfully. 4). Participation marks (e.g. attendance, weekly forums) enabled myself to receive "additional marks," in case I was not successful in receiving the appropriate marks that I would wish for. 5). Feedback from professor allowed me to improve my analytical as well as artistic skills to obtain my grade point average in the course. Con's: 1). In-class lectures must be incorporated in the MRK 610 course in the near future. Many student's, including myself, encountered difficulties with various concepts (e.g. html codes) to complete my assignments. As a suggestion, I strongly believe that since the course operates four hours on a weekly basis, one day should be devoted to in-class lectures, while the other should emphasize on completing assignments!
