Advice from MRK 530 Students, Winter 2000

MRK 530 Winter 2000 Advice

Stay on top of your work. Always understand what is expected of you before you begin an assignment. If you have any questions stay the full length of the class so you can be helped by the teacher. The work is alot easier when you work as a group, if you help each other the job will be done alot faster. FA

The best advice that I could give to other taking this course is to attend all important classes to understand what is expected of you. I would also advise students to ask questions when necessary because at times the course can be a little tricky if you are not familiar with computers. RB

I advice that the students should attend to all the classes and they should know some other student in the class because they can ask someone to help them. Moreover, they should do the projects in advance. If they do it in hurry, they will do a bad work. MC

I think we have to attend every class in this program because we will know what to do and we can follow everything the teacher has said. It is better to do the assignments earlier, we do not complete them at the last moment, we can't get good marks to finish all the things at the last minute. If we have any problems on the assignments, it is better to ask the teacher. She can give us more hints to do them. The most important thing is we should work hard on the whole course. Then we can get the success. SC

This course is over very soon, I have learned many things about computer softwear from this course. Before taking this course, I just knew a little bit of computer knowledge. And this course give me a big chance to create my own web page, it seems so difficult to handle. However it is quite easy to handle, if you attend all the class. So, attend to the class is the important step to be success in this course. TC

My advice is work hard and attendion. The student must have knowledge about the computer. Team work alway important in this course because it has many team presentation. On the other hands, it is better to get the creative because many topics around in the course. Finally, don't be shy to ask the question about the work and problem with the computer. It is because your professor will help you a lot= skarsten. Work hard then you will find your way man! EC

The best advice that I can give is that all students should go to class and learn what they don't know so when project time comes, they would be able to know whats going on. The other advice is that if anyone is in need of help, they should always ask the teacher. TC

Here's a tip, do your work in class, meet with your group a lot, and do not fall behind, there is lots of work, and if you fall behind it gets craaazy. MC

Here is some advice for new students taking the MRK 530 computer
course. I hope these are helpful.
(1) Come to class with an open mind and an eagerness to learn
(2) Attend every class as each class has something unique
to offer and teach you
(3) Stay on top of your assignments and tasks, don't leave
everything to the last minute as it will only create
unnecessary stress
(4) Use your imagination and creativity when creating your
Web pages
(5) Get to know some of your classmates, their knowledge and
skills can help you to achieve better success in the course
(6) Have fun!!! ND

This course can be a lot of fun and a great learning experience, but it will be up to you to make it this way. There is a lot of work involved, and you really need to use your time wisely, especially when working in groups. Try to do the forums every week, since it is very easy to fall behind, and it can be a major pain to do a whole bunch at once. Never be afraid to ask questions when you don't understand how to do something. However, you must also be willing to do some independent learning as well. Selia provides a lot of resources on web design, etc., on the class web pages. Use them! You may be surprised what you can find there. Last, but not least, have fun! This will probably be the only class you have this semester that will give you the opportunity to be creative. So, take full advantage of it! I hope all of you enjoy this course as much as I did. SD

This class takes up too much time and is difficult to keep up with the smaller things like posting to the forum and keeping logs. Making the web pages and the group projects take up time in itself so those minor things get pushed to the side. i suggest use as much class time as possible to do your work for that class and other classes that you may need to finish things up in because it is free lab time. Try your best and make things possible and try to compromise when it comes to doing the group work. Make sure whatever you chooses to do your presentations on, make sure that they are intresting because people get distracted easily by other things when people are presenting. Good luck AJ

This course has been educational and practical. I'm glad that I learnt powerpoint, and web pages. I don't think I would do anything differently in the course. The only thing that I probably screwed up on was these %$^&%$!! forums. I didn't know that Selia took them so seriously, and was looking for deep insight( but I don't have any real insight into the astrology,Pornography on the net, bed time stories etc.) Personally, I wrote them, so that anyone who read them might get a laugh. BJ

This class is fun and interesting things to learn but you need to be on top of things.. for example, do forums everyday if not you will be behind... come to every classes.... do all the assignments soon as possible... and pay attention in class... and lastly... have fun SK

My reccommendation for the students next year is. They should start working on their web page whenever they know how to do it. Dont wait till the last day to do it, because they will never do it on time. And it is not as easy as you thought. You will need to spend alot of time on it. So good luck and have fun. Don't worry be happy.CK

The best advice that I would like to say is attend every classes, it is because if you miss one class, you have no idea what should do for your project. Also, you should not wait until the last minute to finish your assignments, because you will have more stress. In additional, you should try to get to know your classmates so that if you don't have how to something, so that they are able to help you out. TL

The first peace of advice that I would give a new student to this class is to always be up to date and not get behind, because once you do get behind, it's very hard to catch up. As well as always be in class, this because it's only held once a week and there's alot of material covered in one class to be missed. And lastly, this is a very good and fun class so take advantage of what you learn.CL

The best advice I can give the next group of students is twofold. First, make sure you have as much basic Knowledge about the computer as possible so that the concepts and technipues are not totally new. Also, get another student to aid you as a tutor-someone to work with and learn from as you explore the web pages. RM

The best advice I can give to you all is nomatter how much work it will seem at first the end result with be astonishing. The ends will justify the means. If you leave all you work to the end you will be screwed. Do your work as you get it and the rest will come with ease. Dont just take what the course gives you and apply it, take what it gives you explore, and add more to your projects it will be fun.LM

I feel that this course was very practical. I felt that the things we learned like powerpoint and web sites will be useful in the future. I have no real complaints about the course, it was fun! NM

KEEP UP, DON'T SAVE ANY THING UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. IF YOU NEED HELP ASK FOR IT, HAVE AN IDEA GO FOR IT, THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY. CM

My advice to new students is to make sure they make it to every class because it is only 3 hours per week which is not enough unless they are fast learners. The best thing to do is to always work on your own time and get things done because there is not enough time in class to finish everything. Major advice, keep up with forums, do not forget about them. RN

The course is going to be finished soon. According to it, i would like to have some advice for the fellow students who are going to take this course. It is better for them to attend the class and prepare the assignments earlier. In my own experience, attending class is important. It is because we can have chance to ask teacher if we have problems on doing the assignment. Also, since we have certain assignments that are done in groups. Therefore, we need to meet our team-mates to get the work done. Otherwise, it is hard to arrange the time for doing the assignment. I hope the fellow students could do the best on this course and get the experience on working the computers. YN

It is really the most interesting subject in my program. It allow you to have the chance to present and learn with a lot of fun. However, the students should have some preparation regarding the operation of computer if he or she is not very good at computer. especially in building the web page, we have faced a lot of problems for the files transfer and download. It is better not to wait for the last moment to ask questions if you are not very clear about all the procedures. It might bring you headache rather than fun. JP

The advice that I would give to future students in this class is to enjoy what you are learning! Also, pick groups that you feel comfortable working with and will grow in! Try to learn all you can in this class and hand in all your assignments because this class is broken down very fairly in marks that anyone can do extremely well if a little bit of effort is put into it. TR

My best advice to give anyone who will be doing this next year would be to keep up with all your work. Don't leave things to be done at the last minute our you will be screwed. The learning experience is great, you will benefit from this course no doubt and you will value your new found knowledge. I would change nothing except for maybe practicing what I learned a little more. One last bit of advice I would give would be to get help if you need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Raptors!!!! Go Leafs!!!!SS

My advice to the fall students is to enjoy what you do. This isn't like any other course where the requirements are to memorize a boring text book. You will actually be able to apply your skills and learn as you go along. These skills are also very useful and fun. So enjoy! CT

Being what I consider to be an "illiterate" when it comes to computers, I think I can give some good advice for taking this course. First and foremost, have confidence in yourself. I think I was the most worried of all students about taking this course, but I felt I worked hard and learned much. Second, get to know your peers in class. Selia really helps with this with some of the group activities we participated in. I felt if it was not for some of my classmates I would have had no clue what to do. Third, come to class, I must admit it was a really fun class that I looked forward to coming too. Fourth, try to be as creative as possible when doing projects, use all your imagination. Last, work hard, enough said. Do this and you can't fail. RV

My advice to the students who will take this course next term is that they should not procrastinate and try to cooperate with other people. Your classmates can give you a hand if you are stuck. That is the advice I give to following students. FW
