Subject My advice to the newbies
MY ADVICE
1. My advice to all of you is to attend class, even though
I did not have the opportunity to attend all my classes the ones that I
attended I learned from.
2. Having Selia as a professor makes it easier, she is
a great teacher, unique teaching techniques and a amazing sense of humour.
Treat her right.
3. If you want to do well in this course, make sure that
you have enought time to complete your assignment. Practise makes perfect,
in this course especially. Be confident in your skills and learn your material
thoroughly.
4. Make as much friends in the class as possible, there
are a lot of interesting people, explore and try to learn from one another.
5. My last advice is to be open minded and take in as
much information as possible. View all other perpectives and with all those
theories you will be more wiser.
The most important advice I can give to new students to this class are: Choose your team mates wisely, complete your computer work with ample time to present, Keep open communication with your team, hand in your assignments on time, and lastly - show up to class.
1. Choose your Team mates wisely
This class calls for many group presentations and if your group consistently puts forth a lack luster performance, you will ultimately be affected at the end of the day. I recommend creating a 'back-up' of the required materials of the team mate just incase they happen to bail on you. Also, if people on your team are not strong with computers you may need to alter the task delegated to the group to compensate for the skills or talents of the members. You will also need to avoid any situations were there can be a potential for a communication break down. There are ESL students in the class and their levels of English comprehension may be low. It is very important for the flow of information between group members to be open and effective.
2. Complete your computer work with ample testing time.
I made this mistake twice in this class and am easily avoidable. You must back up your work at all times. I know what you are thinking - this won't happen. Believe me when I say that this CAN happen and it WILL happen from time to time. Also, walk through the presentation a few times before you present. Remember that there are time restraints in these presentations and sometimes adding little effects to your PPT slides may cause delays in transition. Make sure your PPT or website is FULLY FUNCTIONAL before you present.
3. Hand in your assignments on time.
I know what you are thinking - no crap!! Ms. Karsten was a good teacher for accepting late work but you lose marks needlessly. Go for an A and not a B - just hand in everything on time. Included with this is the forums - they are easy to forget, make a mental note or be ready to pay the consequences.
4. Show up to class
Come to class, it will be to your benefit - I promise. I did not know how to create WebPages until I came to this class but now I do. I was very nervous to speak in front of the calls at the beginning of the semester but know I feel much more confident. It may seem like a waste of time to come to this class but I can guarantee you will acquire skills in this course that will benefit all other course you have with any type of presentation involved. Watching other teams? presentations will inspire you as well. You may see something that you would like to implement in your own presentations. If you missed the class, you missed the inspiration.
For those that will be attending this class in January:
1) Always attend each class because you never know what you may be missing, whether its valuable information or marks
2)Do complete each forum and try to do them in bulk instead of doing it the last minute because it will be overwhelming
3)When looking for a group to work with, be careful who you choose, because their working habits may not work well with yours and conflict will arise
4)Have a positive and open mind when coming into the course because you never know what you may learn
5)Use the course as a tool to improve your presentation skills before you go into the workforce because thats when it will REALLY COUNT!
6)Lastly, ENJOY yourself and smile!
For students who will take this course on January 2005:
- this is an interesting and challenging course, relax yourself and attend all the classes, you will definitely pass this course
- work hard always reward
- be calm while you are presenting your speech
- be confidence to yourself
- do not hesitate to ask any questions if you do not understand
- Speak up with fluent english while you are making a speech to your audience
- keep track a booklet with computer components data and show it to your professor at the end of the semester, and you will earn a bonus mark
My advice for new students :
1. Attend every class. Don?t ever miss the class, because
you will not know what is important and the assignments that you must do.
Be on time, because Selia will mark it as participation mark. ^_^
2. Make a note or print the course page every week.
3. Make sure you post every discussion board
4. Choose a good group who are able to work together
5. Prepare your work at least 1 week before it?s due (PowerPoint,
web report, team website, portfolio, and etc). There are many things that
you will do in this course. So make sure, you hand the assignments in ON
TIME.
6. WORK and practice
7. Don?t be lazy, because it?s hard to catch up the materials
(so many assignments)
8. Enjoy your MRK class. This is Fun course!!!
Advice to my fellow rookie students =P
- ATTEND ALL CLASSES!!!
- dont procastinate
- practice makes perfect
- theres nothing to be nervous about, this is a fun course
- beware as to whom you will be working with
- hand in you assignments on time (thats a given for every class)
It take alot of guts to go around and put together a group of people when you don't even know anyone... But it is so important. Maybe Interview them make sure you picked hard working people.. This isn't highschool anymore and alot of people still treat group work this way... This is a business partnership and you have to find a group that will be sucessful and you also have to approach it as a busniess partnership as well and commit to them like your bread and butter.
It was easy for me when I am the only guy in a group of 3 well rounded, talented young ladies... How could I let them down!??!?! I couldn't.

Subject Re: FIND A GOOD GROUP!
Subject Advice
Here are some things that I learned in this class not to do.
Do not miss class. This is probably the most important. You will miss some valuable lessons.
Do each forums. This will help increase your mark too.
Do not be afraid to present it's not hard. One of my marketing teachers Scott Waites, told us if you aren't going to present now how will you have practice for the future. If you practice now you won't be scared to do it in the future. This class really helps you to conquer your fear of presenting.
Pick a group that is good and that will do the work. The group
projects are a lot of hard work and you need to have the right group.
Subject The Best Advice
Here's my advice for this course
1]Be ready to using computer software such as powerpoint, netscape composer, web search engine, and word processor. These four software will be used for the assignment. If you are not familiar with these programs, you should know how to use it effectively before class start. Knowing these softwares make you won't get into panic.
2]Attend every single class. Attending class is very important and you won't get bored in this class for sure. You will earn some critical information for effective presentation in every class. So don't miss any class. Also "be on time" is important as much as attending class. If you come late to class, you might ruin other peers' presentation.
3]Choose your teammate carefully. You'll have 3 team presentations which is almost half of your class. If you don't choose group that unmatch you, you'll have bad time and you might not want to go to class. so choose your group wisely.
4]Confidece and Practice is important as well. Since I take this class, I noticed that perfect practice will make your perfect self-confidence. Futhermore, this will make your presentation perfect. Don't be nervous and have loud&clear voices.
Enjoy this class. MRK224 is very useful class.
ADVICE
My advice to the students starting the course in January is, don?t be afraid!
I don?t know why public speaking scares people so much, I was one of them. Now that I have done this course, I feel like there is nothing to it. I also want to warn people about the group work, which is a big part of this course. I was fortunate enough to work with a great bunch of people and we all worked together to get things done. Some other groups had their misunderstandings, but I think that overall everyone worked well together. Just make sure that you can get along with your group to avoid future problems. Good luck!
l Do you want to sharpen your presentation skill? Marketing224 is an effective way to help you to improve your English speaking skill in front of the public. It?s necessary for the students who choice business as your major.
l It?s a quite well planned course. You should follow the whole strategy and finish them step by step, for example, you need to finish weekly forum on time. You can really learn a lot although it doesn?t have any test.
l Besides presentation skill, you should learn and practice your computer skill also. You need to familiar with the Power Point, Word, Netscape Composer and web search skills to help you perfect your presentation.
l It?s a unique class in which the
various ways of learning being used. So, enjoy it!
Subject this is my personal advice to you!!!

3. Last is the best advice---------ENJOY the class, MRK224 is the best class!!!
The best advice I can give is to attend all classes!!! You can miss so much from missing one class and the last thing you want to do is fall behind.
Try not to be late because people are always presenting and it seems rude walking in on a presentation late.
I personally don't like presentations, in fact, I hate them, but this
class helped me a lot and improved my presenting skills, so just practice,
practice, practice and you'll do fine! Do all your work and
the forums are great marks to get!
Subject The best advice
the most important thing is participation.!!
i mean " do not be absent in class and please be aggressive"
these are very useful if you do good job.
most in class contains presentation and the new students will learn how to do presentation
effectively. If the students want to get higher marks, dont miss any important things that the
teacher says in class and ask questions..!!
Some advices for any students who are going to take apart into MRK224
1. Don't be nervous when you presentation in front of class.
2. You should not be absent every class.
3. Usually check the blackboard because teacher always posts homework on it.
My advice is to save your work constantly. I had to redo one of my assignments because my computer crashed before I saved my work. Also, a little bit of knowledge in PowerPoint and Netscape Composer is also handy. When choosing groups for your projects, make sure you choose reliable teammates. If you don't, THEY WILL LET YOU DOWN!!!
For those lucky stiffs that will be attending this class in January:
1) Always go to each class because you never know what you may be missing, whether its valuable information or marks
2)Take the easy marks by participating in the forums
3)When looking for a group to work with, be careful who you choose. You could end up getting stuck with someone like Peter and then everything will go down the tubes.
4)Have a positive and open mind when coming into the course because you never know what you may learn
5)Use the course to hone your presentation skills. Remember, it can't give you a personality transplant if you really stink at presenting, but it can help to make things less excruciating for your audience!
To all of you taking this course in January.....THIS IS AN EASY COURSE IF:
> you try your best when presenting in front of the class
>> you do all of the forums, which are just your opinions
>>> you pick RELIABLE people for group assignments and presentations
>>>> you have at least some general knowledge of Powerpoint and Netscape composer applications
>>>>> attend ALMOST every class. Even when you have to sit through some boring presentations. Attendance goes towards your participation marks and are easy to get if you just show up.
GOOD LUCK!
Advantage to new student:
I almost have done this course; I learn a lot of useful technology,
Something I want to tell the new students. First, don't miss your class!
If you go to class all times, you feel the class is not difficult like
you think. Second, if something you cannot understand doesn't be shy, ask
your professor. In the class, you will learn how to do the presentation;
try to make your presentation interesting and funny, because your audiences
like it. It is interest to create your team website; you have to learn
how to do the team work. Study hard! Nothing, you can't do!
Like other courses, first of all, do not always be late or absent for the class. Second, finding a good partner is a very important thin. I got some good partners this semester, and I think we have done a nice job so far. Third, being confident, talk more. Doing presentation in front of people really take courage. However, talking more is a really good idea to win the fear. Do not be nervous, just talk
This course offers a chance to open up with your team working skills. Some advice would be
to practice before presenting. Review your notes. build up confidence try and look your best.
Be familiar with technology ex. computer that you have to work with. Learning to work with
others is important and hooking up with group members outside of school can help, because it
allows you to see how people really are outside the work place. Handing out notes and having
many more visuals, and activities can help distract all eyes on you helping your presentation,
as well as self confidence.
Subject My Advice To You!!!
The first best piece of advice that I could share with the future students is make sure you go about picking your group wisely for group work. There is a lot of it, so you want a group of people who are there for a good mark, not just a pass.
The second piece of advice to share is to prepare, and organize your time wisely with your own projects, and especially team ones. You will find that if you don't prepare and plan your time effectively it will show in the long, not only to you but your professor also.
The last piece of advice that I want to share with the future students is to come to every class! Missing one class, is like when your at the movie theater can't hold your pee so you have no choice but to go, and what do you know you miss the most important part, and then the person you went with is left to tell you a very brief description of what just happened but you still feel lost. I think that has happened to just about everyone I know unless you plan ahead and don't buy the jumbo pop!
With all this being said I hope you enjoy the class as much as I have.
You really get a sense of your presentation capabilities if you just learn
how to plan, prepare, organize, and relax! GOOD LUCK!!!!

find interesting

as you can
* Keep good eye contact and use body language to
enhance your speech
I hope you will take my advice into consideration. Now, it's all up to you!
My advice to the freshies:
Are you guys ready... brace yourslves, I will now turn over to you some VERY valuable information...take it, follow it to a tee...it will not steer you wrong.
1. Attend every class: very important, it shows your professor/classmates
that your serious about your education.
2. Do all assignments/forums: complete/hand them in on time: easy marks,
they are not difficult.
3. Choose your group members carefully: looking at what fellow students
posted...you can try your hardest to find "legit" group members, but all
in all...you can never find the "perfect group".
Examples: choosing your friends-you may get together as a group for an assignment and end up socializing with them instead getting your work done.
-sticking with you own race/culture- doing this takes away from your learning experiences and limits yourself. Be open to learning/hearing others ideas and/or opinions.
-choosing stereotypes- ie. the nerdy dude at the front of the class with the coke bottle glasses, looking like "Bubbles" from Trailor Park Boys. (not necessarily the brainiack of the class)
4.Practice makes perfect: Always practice before presenting...the task at hand may seem simple, so simple you feel you can just get up and BS your way through the presentation. This does not always work, and it will show during your presentation.
Well GOOD LUCK to you all of you!!!
I would say that the following are a few important thing to be successfull in this class
1. Pay attention durring classes because you will be able to use everything that you learn even if it doesn't seem too important at the time
2. When you do your assignments you can make the choices as to what you want to do them on. For example, our first assignment was on ourselves so I chose to do my project on my missions trip to South Africa. What I'm saying is that because you have the choice of your topics, pick something that you are passionate about and it makes it easy to do a presentation because your so passionate about it and it will help you get used to doing presentations
3. Get as much practice with your assignements and put your all into
them.
Good Luck!
