Team Projects

Team Resources for Presentations

Each team needs to begin doing research for the class presentations. Take notes for the Chapter your team is presenting.

In the AV department, there are video tapes related to each chapter assigned for presentation. You may book a time to view this tape by calling the Learning Centre or reserving the material online.

Another resource available to you is at the MySeneca site for SSC100. Using an Internet Explorer or Netscape browser click on the button (on the left side of the screen) that says Course Supplement. Go to the Chapter that you and your team are exploring. Report back to the class on what you have found there and what might be helpful in planning the presentation.

You may also get a few ideas from the POWER website - there are links for every chapter at this site.

Decide how you are going to review these items.

Class Presentations are scheduled as follows:

Chapter 10 - Decisions/Addictive Substances (also refer to Ch. 14)
Chapter 11 - Academic and Career Choices
Chapter 12 - Money Matters
Chapter 13 - Diversity; Getting Along with Others
Chapter 14 - Enjoying Health and Wellness (Handling Stress and Safety)

Each presentation will be twenty minutes. You may use a variety of activities. Try to make it as interesting and interactive as possible.  Think of an activity that will help get the key ideas from your chapter across to the rest of the class. Be sure to rehearse so that you can do what you want to do in the given time limit. Try to think outside the box - that is - don't just read notes to us or show us overheads that repeat what we can read from the book. Think of a way to get the class involved in doing something that will help them remember the important ideas on this topic.

Team Preparation of Final Exams

This week each team will discuss the final exam they will be preparing. The exam is to cover the material found in the chapter you are presenting.

Keyboard all questions and leave space for answers.
Prepare an answer key for all questions.

Content should include:

                                          15 Multiple Choice questions
2 Short Answer questions (list, name, etc..)
3 Essay questions (describe and give examples)
1 Case Study (2-3 short paragraphs, 2 questions)

Note:On Teams will be trading exams. Exams and Answer Sheets must be ready and enough copies made to distribute to another team on that date.

Team Chapters for Exams:

Team 1 - Chapter 10
Team 2 - Chapter 11
Team 3 - Chapter 12
Team 4 - Chapter 13
Team 5 - Chapter 14

Looking Ahead

Next week is Study Week. This is the week when you can take a little break but be sure to get caught up on all of your assignments and projects so that you can come back in Week Eight feeling refreshed and ready for the rest of the semester.

Please read Chapter Seven and Look at the POWER Portfolio section on page 198 and 199. Compile a reading list of books, articles and magazines that would be valuable for you to read on an ongoing basis. Create a Top Ten Books to read list and bring it to class to share with your team after the break.

Also go to the link for Study Week.

PLEASE NOTE that I want to know how you are feeling about the course so far. The following request is a good way for me to find out if there are things you would like to have done differently.  I want to do my best to make the courses better for your learning style.

Send an e-mail to me -  Go to your MySeneca site - click on the Communications button and go to Send e-mail. Click on All Instructors and fill in the message form. Remember to fill in the subject line too.  in the subject line put SSC100 Mid-Term Feedback.  When you have written the message, click on the Submit button.

This week you are more than halfway through this course. Based on what has happened so far, please comment on the following:

         1. What have you liked about the course so far? Disliked?
         2. Has the course been useful? Not useful? In what ways?
         3. What changes would you like to see in Selia's teaching
           style for the class?
         4. What do you think of the assignments?
         5. With respect to your other courses at Seneca, how does
this one compare in terms of your satisfaction?
