EFFECTIVE BUSINESS PRESENTATIONS
Students focus on developing the skills
needed to make effective, informative and persuasive presentations. Activities
include both individual and team presentations and involve the use of Power
Point and basic web page construction to create audiovisual presentation
aids.
Prerequisites:
ICA 001 or an equivalent introductory subject.
Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate the ability to make professional
business presentations with confidence.
2. Organize presentations using structured
formulas and techniques to promote clarity and comprehension.
3. Apply idea generation techniques as
well as topic, audience, occasion and logistic research to develop appropriate
business presentations.
4. Demonstrate good diction, vocal variety
and pacing, and the use of body language, to ensure audience attention
and comprehension.
5. Apply basic design and layout principles
to produce professional presentation aids, incorporating text and graphics,
for:

Overhead transparencies

Handouts
6. Formulate, organize and deliver professional,
informative business presentations to a specified audience in a pre-determined
period of time. One presentation will be a team presentation; the other
will be an individual presentation.
7. Formulate, organize and deliver professional,
persuasive business presentations to a specified audience in a pre-determined
period of time. One presentation will be a team presentation; the other
will be an individual presentation.
8. Create audience interest and comprehension
by integrating presentation aids into presentations. These include:

9. Critically evaluate self and peer
presentation skills using a pre-determined set of performance criteria.
Presentations may be videotaped for self-evaluation.
10. Work effectively as a team-member by
demonstrating reliability, effective communications, and attention to all
assigned deadlines.
Modes of Instruction
A variety of instructional and learning
modes may be used, including but not limited to, lectures, independent
and/or guided labs, tutorials, demonstrations, instructions and problem
solving, instructions regarding assignments, review exercises and independent
assignments, individual and group projects.

Student Responsibilities
- Students are expected to use the Micro
Centre, other Seneca College resources, and home computers for the extra
computer time necessary to complete assigned tasks and to practice the
skills required to meet the learning outcomes.
- Students will be assigned exercises that
are to be competed in addition to assigned projects.
- Students are expected to conduct themselves
in a professional, business-like manner. Evaluation methods and standards
will reflect those of the business world.
- All submitted work should be completed
on or before the specified date. It is the student's responsibility to
keep a back-up copy of his/her work.
- Missed assignments will receive a grade
of zero. Late assignments receive partial credit.
- It is the student's responsibility to
read this Subject outline carefully and ask questions to resolve problems
so that the requirements and expectations are clearly understood. It is
