SUBJECT DESCRIPTION


Students will learn the basics of designing and developing web sites using Netscape Composer. Students will conduct Internet research and will become familiar with business and marketing strategies used in e-commerce. Internet resources will be explored and developed through online discussion postings and chat sessions.  Professional quality web-based projects will be constructed both independently and working as a member of a team.

CREDIT STATUS: One credit will be granted upon successful completion of this subject.

PRE-REQUISITES: MRK223, MRK333 or MRK530

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon successful completion of this subject will be able to:

1. Design, develop and publish a variety of business-related web pages using a web editor and HTML.
2. Identify a variety of e-business issues in today’s market and take open book reviews on such information.
3. Conduct effective Internet research regarding e-marketing.
4. Analyze and evaluate information related to e-marketing and communicate this information with expertise.
5. Compare traditional business and marketing practices with e-marketing and online enterprise.
 6. Appropriately use an extensive business and technical vocabulary of e-marketing related concepts.
7. Actively participate in online discussions concerning topics such as the building and/or outsourcing of business and technical solutions for commercial web sites.
8.  Independently create and present a professional quality web storefront site.
9. Prepare and present a proposal for an e-commerce site - the model or prototype of the site to be developed by a team.
10. Create an effective model or prototype of an e-commerce-related website working closely with the team, present this site and submit a full report on the site when completed.
 

MODES OF INSTRUCTION:

A variety of instructional and learning modes may be used, including but not limited to lectures, independent and/or guided labs, tutorials, demonstrations, instructions and problem solving, instructions regarding assignments, review exercises and independent assignments, individual and group projects.

Web Report 15% (Criteria-Ranking System, Author Bio Page, 5 sites annotated)
Storefront Project 25% (Business Plan, Site Presentation)
eSite Prototype 40% (Business Plan/SWOT, Proposal Presentation, Site Presentation, Report)

 STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

Students are expected to use the Learning Centre, other Seneca College resources and home computers for the extra computer time necessary to complete assigned tasks and to practice the skills required to meet the learning outcomes.

Students will be assigned writings that are to be completed in addition to assigned projects.

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, business-like manner. Evaluation methods and standards will reflect those of the business world.

All submitted work should be completed on or before the specified date. It is the student's responsibility to keep a back-up copy of his/her work.

Missed assignments will receive a grade of zero. Late assignments receive partial credit.

It is the students’ responsibility to read this Subject outline carefully and ask questions to resolve problems so that the requirements and expectations are clearly understood. It is recommended that students keep this outline for future reference.
