Bibliography for CAN 217 African-Canadian Studies
Prepared by Professor Patricia Clark
Seneca College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

This bibliography provides a list of books, films, articles, and so on,  which you may find helpful as you conduct research for your various assignments.

You will definitely need to consult materials from the Seneca Learning Commons  and/or a branch of your local library to complete your term work.

The largest local collection is in the Toronto Public Library (TPL). If you possess a TPL library card, you can check holdings and place holds on library materials by using the TPL on-line catalogue or by visiting any branch of the library. The TPL collection of African-Canadian materials is quite extensive. If you place materials on hold, they will usually arrive at your neighbourhood branch within 24 to 48 hours, if they not already on loan.

Here are links to the Ajax Public Library, the Brampton Public Library, the Caledon Public Library, the Markham Public Libraries, the Mississauga Public Library, the Newmarket Public Library, the Pickering Public Library, the Richmond Hill Public Library, and the Woodbridge Public Library.

The Internet provides some informative sites,  but generally not enough data for an in-depth research project. In any case, your research sources must not come primarily from the internet. Therefore, be sure to schedule time to consult your public library's holdings.

I have categorized the material for your convenience and will add to the list regularly. Some readings are listed in more than one category. The publishing data is incomplete in some cases. As well, you may wish to consult the bibliography in The Blacks in Canada, your text for CAN 217.
