hi,
i thought i'd post this here, because i was talking to some other
radiohead fans about this chat the other day, and nobody knew about the
chat, let alone IRC or #permanent_daylight.
just some background: On Friday Nov 15/ Saturday Nov 16 1996, allegedly
during the OKC sessions, jonny and colin popped into the DALnet irc
channel #permanent_daylight unannounced for 3 or 4 hours of unmoderated
chat. of course, nobody knew it was them, but later on, the chat was
confirmed by jonny in the November 1997 edition of 'The Web' (Baltimore
Sun 96) :
"We used to go into the IRC rooms and pretend to be us", Greenwood says.
"But at the end of the session, we would say 'I confess, my name is
Steve and I am from Ottowa, Im just sitting here with all my Radiohead
books.' Then someone would come in the room and pretend to be Colin,
even though Colin was downstairs playing bass. It got very twisted"
once people started realising that, maybe it was radiohead in the chat
room did the chat started to be logged. unfortunately, this means that
the first 1 1/2 hours of the chat is gone forever.
i was lucky enough to be present during this chat. unfortunately, i was
a skeptical obnoxious 14 year old, and i cringe everytime i read this
transcript. i wish the previous 2 hours were logged, because i don't
think i was so nasty until i was *sure* it wasn't radiohead. anyway,
have a read, it's pretty interesting.
